On Generalizations and Formulations in Constrained Nonlinear Programming

Abstract:
 
We cover two topics regarding extensions to general constrained programming.  In the first part, we explain an extension of the link in between the sequential quadratic approximation method and the nonsmooth Newton's method to general constrained optimization, which was established for regularized optimization problems in our earlier work.  In the second part, we discuss the importance of the formulations for certain quadratic constraints and explain the resulting extension to a nonlinear programming algorithm.  
 
Short Bio: 
 
Figen Oztoprak received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Sabanci University in 2011.  She worked as a predoc and then as a postdoc in projects on nonlinear programming, optimization for machine learning, and large scale sparse linear algebra.  She was as an assistant professor at Istanbul Bilgi University between 2014-2016, and has been a member of the Knitro solver development team since 2016.
